Venturing North

This weekend I will travel north of Lansing and venture into the great Michigan "up north". When I tell Michiganders that I'm from Atlanta and just moved up here last year for grad school, they invariably ask if I've been "up north" yet. Then I say "no" and they respond with a "wow, I can't believe it! you have to go!!". It isn't as if I haven't wanted to go, it's just that the opportunity hasn't presented itself until now. My boyfriend has a cabin "up north" and has invited me and some of his friends on a ski trip. I'm quite excited, not just because Kyle has spoken fondly of his cabin since our first date, but also because I get to see the countryside that everyone has been raving about AND I get to spend a cozy weekend with him (as in, there's no heat or running water--but I can do rustic no problem). I will not however be skiing this trip. While I have never been skiing (another "what??" response-getter), I'll be waiting to test out my skiing finesse until our second trip up north to stay at a friend's cabin. I can't afford two ski-trips in a month's time :)
